App rescue and maintenance
Your developer left, the agency went quiet, or every change breaks something else. We take over web and mobile apps we did not build, make them safe to change, then improve them step by step.
- We read it before we quote
- Code first
- Each fix tested before it ships
- Small releases
- Monitoring, backups and updates
- Care plan
When to call us
- The developer who built it has left and nobody else understands it
- Every change breaks something else, so nothing gets changed
- An update was rejected by the App Store or Google Play
- It is slow, falls over under load, or has a security problem
- You do not have the passwords, the code or the hosting account
How a rescue goes
First we sort out access: the code, the hosting, the domain and the store accounts, moved into your name if they are not already. Then we read the code and write up what we find in plain English: what is sound, what is risky, and what to fix first, with a price for each step.
The fixes come in small releases, with tests added around the parts we touch, so the app gets safer to change each time rather than more fragile.
What we take on
Apps built on Laravel and PHP, Vue, Nuxt, React, React Native, Swift and Kotlin, which covers most web and mobile apps built in the last ten years. If yours is built on something we do not work in, we say so on the scoping call.
Ongoing care
Once the app is stable, a care plan keeps it that way: monitoring, daily backups, security and software updates, agreed response times, and hours set aside each month for small changes. It is billed monthly and quoted after the scoping call.
Every project runs the same way: a free scoping call, a written plan and fixed quote, two-week sprints, launch, then care. See how it goes.
Questions
App rescue and maintenance: common questions.
Can you take over an app another developer built?
Yes, that is what this service is for. We get access sorted, read the code, and give you a written assessment and a fixed price for each step before changing anything.
We do not have access to our code or hosting. Can you help?
Usually some of it can be recovered: hosting and domain providers and the app stores have processes for proving ownership, and we help you work through them so everything ends up in your name. If the code itself is lost, we tell you what a rebuild would cost compared with what is left.
How much does app maintenance cost?
A care plan is a monthly retainer, quoted after the scoping call, based on the size of the app and the response times you need. Fixing a stalled app comes first, as a fixed-price project from our $3,000 USD minimum.
Should we fix our app or rebuild it?
Usually fix it. Rebuilds cost more and take longer than anyone expects, and the old app has to keep running in the meantime. We recommend a rebuild only when the code review shows fixing would cost more, and we show you the numbers both ways.
